We created The 4934 to be a place where people can come together to learn something new, make something, meet people, celebrate, or simply gather.

TAKE A CLASS AT THE 4934

You don't have to be creative. You don't have to be experienced. Just come try something new.

The 4934 hosts a changing lineup of classes, workshops and special experiences led by local instructors, artists, makers and creatives.

Classes are open to the public, and you do not need to be a Poplar & Payne vendor to attend.

Depending on the month, you might find floral arranging, art workshops, seasonal crafts, gift wrapping, language classes, creative projects and plenty of things we haven't even thought of yet.

Our goal is simple: give you something fun and different to do in Memphis.

HOW DO CLASSES WORK?

It's easy.

Browse our upcoming classes, choose the one you'd like to attend and purchase your ticket online.

Because The 4934 is intentionally a smaller, more personal space, many classes have a limited number of tickets available.

If you see something you want to try, we recommend reserving your spot ahead of time.

New classes will be added regularly, so check back often to see what's happening next.

BOOK THE 4934

Need a place to get everyone together?

You don't have to take a class to use The 4934.

The space is also available to book privately by the hour for your own meeting, gathering or small event.

The 4934 is approximately 24' × 25' and is located right inside Poplar & Payne. It's designed to feel comfortable and intimate rather than like a large, traditional event venue.

WHAT CAN I BOOK IT FOR?

The possibilities are pretty open.

The 4934 can be used for things like book clubs, business meetings, team gatherings, showers, clubs, community groups, small celebrations, planning sessions, group activities and other intimate events.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES IT HOLD?

For most events, we recommend approximately 10–15 guests for the most comfortable setup.

Depending on how you plan to use the room and how much seating or table space you need, The 4934 can accommodate up to approximately 20 people.

Private bookings are available by the hour, and select after-hours times may also be available.

TEACH AT THE 4934

Have something you know how to do? Someone probably wants to learn it.

The 4934 isn't just about taking classes. It's also about giving talented people in Memphis a place to teach them.

We're looking for artists, makers, educators, creatives and people with interesting skills or ideas who would like to host a class or workshop at Poplar & Payne.

And you do not have to be a Poplar & Payne vendor to apply to teach.

Maybe you're an artist who wants to teach a beginner painting class.

Maybe you're great at floral arranging, calligraphy, photography, gift wrapping or another creative skill.

Maybe you teach a language, lead a book discussion or have an idea for something completely different.

We want to hear it.

HOW DOES TEACHING AT THE 4934 WORK?

Start by submitting our instructor application and telling us a little about yourself and what you'd like to teach.

Once your class is approved, we'll work with you to get it scheduled.

Poplar & Payne provides The 4934 space and handles ticket sales for your class.

That means you can focus on planning your class and creating a great experience for the people attending.

Classes can be one-time workshops, seasonal experiences, recurring classes or other approved formats.

If you've thought about teaching something but haven't had the right place to do it, this is exactly why we created The 4934.
